Join the tour guide and other passengers onto our comfortable coach and start today’s programme with a visit to the main attractions in Datong city.

Lunch break will be at a local delicatessen street, where you can taste the most authentic local food.

In the afternoon we visit one of the biggest Buddhist grottoes in China — the Yungang Grottoes. Created in three stages between 460 and 524, they show the transition from a heavy Indian and central Asian artistic influence to the emergence of a Chinese traditional style.

After the day trip the coach will transfer us to the hotel.

After breakfast we will gather in the lobby before we set out to explore the rich culture of Taiyuan Jin Memorial Temple.

The coach journey is approximately 3 ½ hours from Datong to Taiyuan with a stopover at a local street famous for local cuisine where you can take lunch.

In the afternoon we will arrive at Jin Memorial Temple. The site of Jin Memorial Temple is a large park with gardens and a lake, pavilions, halls and temples from various dynasties, beginning with the Song dynasty (960-1279). As you stroll the grounds, the one building that must not be overlooked is Shengmu Dian (Hall of the Holy Mother). It is famed for its iconic double-eaved roof and extraordinary writhing dragons, each carved out of wood and coiled around one of the building's eight front columns.

After the day trip the coach will transfer us to the hotel.

After a satisfying breakfast, we will continue to Jincheng for a visit to the House of the Huangcheng Chancellor, home of Chen Tingjing, the Wenyuange Academician and Minister of Personnel of the Qing Dynasty, who served as a helper of the emperor for half a century, was a teacher to the Emperor Kangxi and Editor-in-chief of the Dictionary Kangxi Zidian. The tourist zone of the house of the chancellor covers an area of more than 100,000 square meters. The constructions make the most of the hillside, displaying a multiple configuration of houses and courtyards, from the magnificent surrounding walls and stone portals to the beautiful gardens and living rooms with different kinds of decorations.

In the morning we prepare ourselves for the trip to Yuntai Mountain. The coach will take us Jiaozuo. A 2-hour journey with stopover in a local food street market with plenty delicious local lunch options.

After lunch, we will visit the Yuntai Mountain. This mountain is among the first to receive the title of World Geologic Park from UNESCO in 2004. It is also the only famous scenic area in Henan Province having the titles of National 5A Grade Tourist Attraction, National Forest Park, National Geologic Park, National Water Conservancy Scenic Area and National Macaque Natural Reserve. The picturesque peaks and high mountains extend as far as the eyes can see, covered with verdant virgin forest, it is famous for its imposing mountain and water sceneries.

Today we will have an early start as the coach will take us from Zhengzhou to Jinzhong to visit the ancient famous dwelling building, Wang Grand Courtyard.

Wang Grand Courtyard is a comprehensive expression of the folk residence in the Qing Dynasty and a typical example of the 5000 years civilisation history.

It was built by the Wang family in the Jingsheng Village and consists of a large ancient building complex which occupies a total area of 250,000 square meters. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the construction lasted three hundred years. The saying goes that once you have visited Wang courtyard, you don’t need to visit another courtyard. True or not? You decide.

After the trip of Wang Grand Courtyard, the coach will transfer us to Pingyao and check into the hotel.

Today is one of the highlights of our tour, The Ancient City of PingYao, where you can buy lots of specialty souvenirs and taste characteristic cuisine.

The past prosperity of Shanxi lies in Pingyao, while the soul of Pingyao lies in its Old City. Founded during the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046 – 771 BC) and rebuilt in 1370, the Ancient City of Pingyao is nowadays one of China's four best preserved old cities together with Lijiang Old Town, Huizhou Ancient City and Langzhong Ancient City. What is unique is that the ancient city with its grand city wall and its traditional residences, former security guard companies, well preserved shops, and even the previous government office are extremely authentic. In 1997, it was inscribed as a world cultural heritage.

After lunch, the coach will transfer us to Yingxian and check into the hotel.

After breakfast, we check out of the hotel, our coach transfer will take us to the oldest and highest wooden structure in the region, Yingxian Wooden Tower. Only 1/2 hour drive away, this tower is regarded as the 'First Pagoda in the World' and a gem in the architectural field. It has now also been placed under national emphases under the Cultural Relics Protection Units. It is a perfect combination of science, art and religion.

We will take lunch nearby the Wooden Tower and there will be leisure time to explore the area before our next destination, Hanging Monastery.

Hanging Monastery stands at the foot of Mt. Hengshan, 5 kilometres (3 miles) south of Hunyuan County, and 65 kilometres (40 miles) from downtown Datong City. Hanging Monastery is an architectural wonder, since it hangs on the west cliff of Jinxia Gorge at more than 50 meters above the ground. Hence, its name Hanging Monastery.How could a building like this withstand the winds and storms for so many years? A unique mechanical theory was applied to building the framework. You are highly encouraged to explore the secret by visit the Monastery and find out. After this excursion, our guide will escort you back to the coach to transfer to Beijing.
